"Humans constantly feel pain in their hearts. Because the heart is so sensitive to pain, humans also feel that to live is to suffer. You're so delicate, like glass, especially your heart."

Writer: Genesis
Source: Evangelion* canon divergence
Name: Kowaru Nagisa ( 渚 カヲル )
Alias: Adam

Pronouns: He/They/It

Birthday: September 13th, 2000
Occupation: EVA user
Height: 4'11"
Affiliation: LEV
Morality: Chaotic Good

Species: Angel-Lilin Hybrid

Abilities:

Kaworu has the ability to project a psychical A.T. Field. An Absolute Terror Field is a barrier that can protect him from attacks. This Field's strength varies on dice rolls and current stability, based on how much damage he's taken. Over time, the A.T. Field will weaken even if the dice rolls are regularly high.Kaworu can levitate and hijack certain machinery with his mind. (Depends on dice roll: 1-15 means he can’t, and 16-20 means he can.)Kaworu can summon his EVA weapon with his will. This weapon, manifested as a sword, can be used for combat against angels, demons, and other strange enemies.

Weaknesses:

Even if his soul is of Adam, he is confined to a human body, meaning he can be killed almost as easily as a human, so long as his core is destroyed.Pain is much more extreme to Kaworu than to a natural human. In an attempt to replicate the human body, they messed up the sensors, meaning he is also vulnerable to sensory overload. This means that all attacks towards him will have an automatic 2+His weapon is much more discreet as opposed to the EVAs, making it ideal for close combat, but not so much for larger enemies.

"I wonder, if I left you here...
Would you die?
Like a human?"

Personality:

Kowaru does not see himself as human, despite inhabiting a human body. He lacks an understanding of societal norms and levels of intimacy. His ignorance of taboos and personal space leaves room for some comedic relief, even at his expense.Even with his playful personality around those he's familiar with, Kaworu does have a tendency to become more formal and vague with strangers. He might speak poetically or say things that don't quite make sense to those who haven't extensively read every Evangelion adaptation in existence. Shame on you. With his more playful side, however, he's very clingy, and his compassion knows no bounds. He always keeps his promises, no matter the cost, and he strives most of all to make others happy,
especially for those he cares about deeply.
Along with this reset, Kaworu will act much more cryptic and otherworldly, with a lack of remorse and a very questionable morality.Additionally, he has a strange fondness for old poems and literature, along with classical music and instruments. Sometimes, he acts as if he learned how to talk from these poems.

Backstory:

Kaworu's body was created as a result of the Contact Experiment with Adam. In this experiment, DNA from human donor Ryoji Kaji (age 16 at the time) dove into and fused with Adam's flesh. Kaworu was born on the day of the Second Impact, in 2000. Kowaru Nagisa was the vessel for the salvaged soul of Adam. He was raised by SEELE (specifically, Keel Lorenz) to become mankind's trigger for instrumentality. In 2015, Kaworu was sent by SEELE (after Asuka's synchronization fell below usability) as a replacement pilot. Kowaru spent his time at NERV with Shinji, sharing things like music and comfort.Unfortunately, the reveal of Kaworu's true nature as an angel forced Shinji to kill him, at Kaworu's request. After instrumentality was reached (basically, everyone turns into Tang), the timeloop was reset. Kaworu, along with a few others, retained knowledge of the loops, that being Mari Makinami, Fuyutsuki, Ryoji kaji, and possibly Gendo Ikari himself.By now, at least 51 realities have been explored, played out, but to no avail. His final death was in 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo, after he told Shinji that they would meet again. Well...He always does make good on his promises, doesn't he?

"Dying of your own will is the one and absolute freedom there is."

*Canon Divergence:

His backstory includes all the drafts, rebuilds, etc. in the form of time loops. One loop that stands out, however, is Campus Apocalypse. The reason it's not included in the backstory is because I would have to explain the plot of all the other sources, only mildly diverging from each loop. Campus Apocalypse, however, takes on a very different story. I've placed it as one of the much later loops in the chronology of Kaworu's backstory. Now, however, Campus Apocalypse will be the main source of Kaworu's memories, or at least what's left of them. In turn, another form of Kaworu lives in a cloned body, but given the fact that they essentially share the same powers, backstory, etc. and that Tabris has already been accpted in the past, I've decided to just leave him as an addition to this.In Campus Apocalypse, it takes on a "battle high school" setting. Instead of mechas, they have weapons manifested by their will, which reflects their personality. Kaworu in particular has a sword, which holds enough power to defeat an Angel, or what will be called "demons" in my version of the lore, that are body-snatching creatures that impersonate humans.

"I was definitely born to meet you."

. . .However, something caught his attention as Ritsuko turned the corner. He approached it, straying from the main hall as he entered a warmer area. As he glanced up, he could see the sky and the sun. The sun… a round star of fire in the sky. The warmth of the flames passed down onto the earth… Was it a courtyard? It seemed to be that way, really. But that wasn’t what he was interested in. He was interested in the large object sitting in the center of the courtyard. He curiously examined the strange thing. He hadn’t seen such a structure before, he didn’t know what it was for. He accidentally leaned onto the keys, and the piano let out a sudden jumble of noises in reaction to the notes. He stumbled back in shock, he didn’t expect such a profound reaction! Was it alive? Was it some sort of contraption? He carefully approached it once more and pressed his finger onto a single key. It let out a deep bang throughout the courtyard, echoing gently against the trees. Kaworu sat down on the piano bench, indulging in the curious sounds. At first, it was abrupt and random, with no natural rhythm or melody. Soon, though, the music evolved, flowing into a rough pattern of notes, creating a song. He indulged in the feeling, the sound of the keys, and swayed back and forth…It was hard to tell how much time had passed before Ritsuko rushed into the courtyard, out of breath. “Nagisa! What were you doing?!”Kaworu pressed onto a messy combination of keys, abruptly ending his song. He turned to Ritsuko with confusion. “What is this called?”Ritsuko let out a breath and walked over to him. “Are you asking about the piano? It’s a musical instrument. Director Ikari and chairman Lorenz both seem to like their music, don’t they?”Kaworu looked back at the keys. “Did you create this?”“Me? No,” Ritsuko laughed, “I hardly know how to assemble a desk.”“The humans.” Kaworu turned to Akagi with a desperate gleam in his eyes. “Did they make this?”She tilted her head at him, raising a brow. “…I should hope so. It didn’t come from the earth, after all. ...Nagisa, have you never seen a piano before?”He shook his head silently, returning to press a few more keys, trying to understand how it worked. “It’s beautiful.”
